Dear Dr. Ramiro Anzit Guerrero

We are pleased to invite you to the International Conference: Refugees in Crisis: Policy, Memory and Experience, that will take place on November 16th-17th, 2016, at the Harry S. Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The first day of the conference «St. Louis and Beyond» will deal with the question of Jewish refugees in a comparative perspective, with special emphasis on Latin America. The second day, «World Politics and Refugees», will be devoted to contemporary issues.
The conference will focus primarily on two subjects: (1) the official and unofficial policies of decision makers and their impact on the possibilities of rescue – then and now, and (2) the personal experiences of the refugees themselves, as they are reflected in individual and collective memories.
The first day of the conference will conclude with the screening of the film: COMPLICIT: The Untold Story of Why the Roosevelt Administration Denied Safe Haven to Jewish Refugees, and with an encounter of five survivors of the St. Louis voyage.
We are well acquainted with your very important work in the field of security and policy and it will be an honor for us if you accept our invitation to participate in the panel on «Refugees and Security: the Role of the States». In case of a positive answer, as we hope, please send a short abstract to the conference coordinator. The conference will be held in English and each participant will be granted 25 minutes.
Looking forward to your participation in the conference,
Sincerely yours,

Dr. Margalit Bejarano         Dr. Mauricio Dimant
